March Madness & The IU Basketball Experience

When you live in Indiana {and have grown up with a basketball obsession} March Madness is kinda a big deal. Now…I know this isn’t a sports blog in any sense of the word, but when it comes to basketball, tournaments and the month of March I can’t help but get roped into all the excitement…or should I say madness 🙂

You may or may not have heard that my beloved Indiana Hoosiers made it to the big dance this year. Thank goodness! So, in honor of their game today {at 2:45PM EST to be exact} I find it only fitting to dedicate today’s post to my favorite basketball team, and share a little bit more about the IU basketball experience.

IU 3

A few weeks ago my dad and I went to IU’s last regular scheduled game of the season. I work for my dad, so we spend a lot of time together. But these are the times that I enjoy spending with him the most. He has passed his love of IU basketball down to me, and I’m so lucky to have grown up with this tradition.

Now…when you go to an IU game there is so much to do and see.

Like the pregame warm-up…

{Side note: It’s hard not to get just as excited as a ten year-old boy does when you see the players!}

IU 7

And then the real warm-up in the famous candy-striped pants.

IU 10

Isn’t this just the coolest thing you’ve ever seen!?

IU 11

Next they kill the lights to announce the starting line-up…

IU 2

You will probably get goose bumps, and may even get a little choked-up when they announce two of your personal faves.

Then the game begins…and you literally sit on the edge of your seat in a complete zone until half-time. You don’t talk to anyone {except for the comments you make about the game to yourself}, look at your phone, take pictures {hence the reason why you don’t have any pics of them actually playing the game}.

It’s an intense experience.

They break for half-time and you can finally act like a normal person again…well for 20 minutes anyways.

IU 4

And it’s ok to get your phone back out during the long time-outs to take a few quick pics. Just the long ones though 🙂 After all, the cheerleaders are pretty fun to watch too…and of course it all adds to the experience.

Unfortunately, the Hoosiers can’t win every single game…and it really stinks when they lose at home…but if they can come back from being down by 6+ points within a few minutes, and have a chance to tie the game {but sadly don’t, poor Yogi}…it still makes it exciting.

But if worse comes to worse you can always drown your sorrows after the game at Nick’s!

IU 5

Win or lose {even though I hate when IU loses} there’s still nothing like the IU basketball experience.

IU 6

If you are ever in Bloomington, Indiana during basketball season you have to go to an IU game. I don’t think you can say you’ve really watched a college basketball game until you’ve seen one at Assembly Hall.

Let’s go Hoosiers!! Beat Wichita State!!

Happy March Madness to you!
