Hello!
There is something about Christmas decorations that make me really happy.
Like really…really happy ๐
And one of my favorite decorated spots in the Purple Palace during Christmas is our garland hanging on the fireplace mantel.
Decorating a mantel for Christmas can be somewhat of a tricky thing.
You see it took us 3 Christmases to finally get the garland on the mantel right.
So today I’d like to share the steps we take to make sure the garland on the mantel looks perfect…or at least perfect to us.
Directions:
1. Make sure your lights work before you hang your garland. What is it about the longevity of Christmas lights anyways….they should last for more than one season! Your life will be so much easier if you make sure these lights are working before you fuss with the garland anymore.
2. Fluff the garland up a bit…because most likely it has been boxed away all year and nobody likes matted down garland!
3. Use ribbon to attach the ends of the garland to the mantel. {I use thumbtacks to secure the ribbon.} Then attach the middle portion of the garland to the fireplace to create a swag.
4. Add the ribbon to the garland.
5. Next…start decorating with the larger flowers and picks on each end and in the middle. It’s nice to get each of these areas finished so then you can easily work your way in.
6. Pick away! Continue working your way in with the other picks.
Note: Step back often to check out your progress and see where you might need to add a little something more.
See not too complicated…
The key is to fill in as you go…and if you have to move things around {like I often do 25,587 times} no biggie.
In the end you will have your mantel decorated perfectly with your own Christmas garland!
