A Life Update

Apartment Home Tour | The Blue Eyed Dove

Two years ago I decided to do something completely different. Like most people I can be very hesitant to take the tiniest step outside of my comfort zone, but also understand it’s crucial for any type of personal or professional growth. I was looking for a new place to live. I could have gone the obvious route and found something in the same neighborhood I had lived in for years, but that didn’t feel right. Someone had mentioned moving “downtown” Fort Wayne to me and it sort of stuck.

Like most cities around the country downtown Fort Wayne has been under a revitalization for the past several years. The city was literally booming, and once I saw my friend Rose’s apartment in the heart of downtown I knew it was where I needed to be. As luck would have it {seriously it was pure luck, because there were only four apartments in Rose’s building!} one of the tenants decided to break her lease and I was in!

So why I am telling you all of this now, and how can it really be considered a life update since it happened two years ago? About two months ago my friend Rose’s apartment opened up {the one that sold me on downtown living in the first place}, and I knew it was time to move. Lucky for me though, it was only across the hall. With all of this being said, I obviously am thrilled to be in my new apartment {and you will get to see it here very soon!}, but I also loved my old apartment so much and never really shared it with you outside of my Christmas Home tours {see them here and here}. It is only fair to dedicate a full post to this home of mine, and share a few pictures from it because it will always hold a very special place in my heart. And someday I’ll want to go through my archives and look at it again too!

If only the walls of this little studio apartment of mine could talk! They would tell you I wondered what I had just gotten myself into the first night there alone. Luckily, after that night was over {and my cable and wifi was installed} I quickly fell head over heels in love with my new home. This apartment has seen every episode of the Real Housewives franchise series for the last two years {probably multiple times}, hosted lots of parties {which you’ve surely seen on the blog!}, served as my lookout tower as I patrolled the back alley for mischievous teenagers or just watched the several photo shoots happening on the picturesque leaf-covered wall, heard several of my spontaneous Pandora concerts, and taught me how to really get organized when you don’t have a ton of space to work with. I can’t tell you the countless times I’d wake up each morning, look around and think, “I love this place so much”!

Thank you old apartment for all of the wonderful memories, and most importantly for teaching me that so many good things lie just outside my comfort zone. When I think of you I will continue to tell people that living there was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because it truly was. And I may still have people try and guess what I paid for you in rent because it was such a steal for downtown living too! 😉
