When we first moved into the Purple Palace we were so excited to purchase our patio furniture. Over time anything left outside tends to fade…and fade bad in some cases. This has certainly been the case with the patio furniture we purchased just 3 short years ago. My sister and I decided it was time for an update, but weren’t exactly thrilled about coughing up the extra money to do it.
While browsing through Target one day we spotted some adorable turquoise chairs and knew that was the direction we wanted to go in. The only problem is the chairs were $110 for two….ouch! Then we got to thinking….why not just spray paint the faded patio chairs we had. And so our patio chair update began!
Our chairs and cushions originally looked like this:
…a faded hot mess! Not exactly what we were envisioning anymore.
We decided to use Rust-Oleum’s Gloss Seaside spray paint for the chairs.
We were beyond thrilled with the way the color turned out!
We bought a few outdoor throw pillows from Target. Then my mom and I actually covered the old cushion with some outdoor fabric from Hancock Fabrics.
Our 3 year old faded patio chairs came out looking like completely different chairs! Thank goodness!
Don’t you agree the chair looks much better!?
I am SO in love with my updated patio chairs!!! It always amazes me how a fresh coat of paint can completely change a piece. Of course we couldn’t stop with just the patio chairs. We also updated the table and love seat. I’ll be sharing the complete project with you on Wednesday’s post.
Until then, have a great day!

Love this color! I did this to my plastic outdoor chairs last year and loved the money it saved and the huge hit of color I got to add to the backyard. Love the turquoise with the navy. We would love for you to link up at The Makers with us on Tuesday morning over at TinySidekick.com. Hope to see you there!

I have gotten so much use out of that exact spray paint color. This is a great idea. I saw those chairs at target and also fell in love. We are in the process of repairing our patio furniture and I did not want all of the sanding to go to waste by buying new now. I love the little accent pillow you have, adorable.

Question for you…. We are about to do the same thing to our patio furniture and was wondering – is it possible to spray paint the plastic slings on bottom of chair that hold the seat cushion? I noticed yours are still black… How did you not get paint on them? Thanks!!!

I taped my slings with frog tape. I was afraid if I painted them they would chip easily. Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with your patio furniture update! I’d love to see pics :)
